MODALITIES

I have been practicing Massage Therapy since 2003, continually refining my skills and expanding my training in a wide range of techniques. My signature massage is an intuitive blend of these modalities, thoughtfully tailored to meet the unique needs of each client.  Below are some of the primary therapies I incorporate into my work, along with a brief description of each.

SWEDISH/RELAXATION MASSAGE

A foundational therapeutic massage technique using long, flowing strokes, gentle kneading, and rhythmic movements to support circulation, calm the nervous system, and promote overall relaxation. Swedish massage can be both deeply relaxing and clinically beneficial, depending on pressure and intent.

Recommended for:

Stress reduction, general muscle tension, relaxation, first-time massage clients, and nervous system support.

NEUROMUSCULAR THERAPY (NMT)

A highly targeted technique focused on identifying and releasing specific trigger points and soft tissue patterns that contribute to pain and dysfunction. NMT helps restore balance between muscles and the nervous system, often providing relief from referred pain patterns.

Recommended for:

Chronic pain, headaches, jaw or neck tension, nerve-related discomfort, postural issues, and injury recovery.

GUA SHA

A traditional therapeutic technique using a smooth-edged tool applied with controlled strokes to encourage circulation, release fascial adhesions, and support the body's natural healing response. Gua Sha can leave temporary redness or light marks on the skin, which are a normal and expected part of the process and usually resolve within a few days.

Recommended for:

Chronic muscle tension, fascial restrictions, inflammation, injury recovery, and clients seeking deeper therapeutic work.

Contraindications/Precautions:

Gua Sha should not be performed over open or irritated shin, active inflammation, or recent injuries. It is not appropriate for those with fragile skin, bleeding disorders, or who take blood-thinning medication.

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE

A therapeutic approach that works into deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue to address chronic tension, postural imbalances, and restricted movement. Pressure is applied slowly and intentionally to encourage lasting change rather than temporary relief.

Recommended for:

Chronic muscle tension, repetitive strain, limited mobility, physically demanding work, and long-standing areas of discomfort.

CUPPING THERAPY

A therapeutic modality that uses gentle suction to lift and decompress soft tissue, increase circulation, and release deeply held tension and fascial restrictions. Cupping may leave temporary circular marks on the skin, which are not bruises but a normal response indicating increased blood flow to the area. These marks typically fade within several days.

Recommended for:

Persistent muscle tightness, fascial restrictions, limited range of motion, inflammation, and areas that feel "stuck" or unresponsive to traditional massage.

Contraindications/Precautions:

Cupping is not recommended over open wounds, active skin infections, or recent surgeries. It may not be appropriate for individuals with fragile skin, bleeding disorders, or those taking blood-thinning medications.

HOT STONE MASSAGE

A therapeutic technique that incorporates heated stones to warm muscles and soften connective tissue, allowing for deeper work with less strain on the body. The heat promotes relaxation, improves circulation, and enhances the effectiveness of other massage techniques.

Recommended for:

Deep muscle tension, stress-related holding patterns, cold sensitivity, nervous system regulation, and those who prefer deeply relaxing yet effective treatment.
