Rebel Apothecary grew out of my massage practice. Not because I set out to start a skincare company, but because I wanted better products for my clients.
I've been a licensed massage therapist since 2003, and I've been studying aromatherapy for more than 30 years. I also spent 14 years as a cosmetologist. Long before Rebel Apothecary existed, I was fascinated by how the body works. I love anatomy, kinesiology, weight training, and learning how the body heals and recovers. Massage therapy gave me a way to combine those interests while helping people feel better, not just look better.

Like most massage therapists, I think I've tried just about every massage cream, lotion, and oil I could get my hands on. Some were great to work with. Some smelled nice. Some used natural ingredients. But there was always something missing.
I wanted products that felt luxurious, nourished the skin, and actually contributed to the massage experience. I wanted to customize aromatherapy for each client instead of relying on whatever fragrance happened to come in the bottle. Most of all, I wanted the ingredients to do something.

I've always believed that the ingredients in a product should do something. Not just sit on your skin.
If an oil can nourish the skin, support tired muscles, encourage relaxation, or simply make the experience better, then it has earned its place in the formula. If it doesn't add something meaningful, I usually leave it out.
I'm probably incapable of leaving a formula alone until I think every ingredient has earned its place. I don't choose natural ingredients just for the sake of being natural. I choose them because they

have a purpose.

The same is true for fragrance.
It's easy to decide, "I want this product to smell like lavender," and add a lavender fragrance. My approach is different. I start with a question like, "How do I want someone to feel?" If the goal is relaxation, calm, or recovery, I'd rather build the fragrance from botanicals that naturally support that experience while creating

a scent people genuinely love.
That's what I mean by Functional Fragrance. The products smell great, and they actually do something.

Everything I make starts with some simple questions:
Would I use this on my own massage clients? Would I use this myself? Would I have my family use it?
If the answer isn't yes, I keep working on it.

My goal has always been to make the massage experience better- not just during the session, but after people go home. Of course I want my clients to enjoy the massage itself. But I also want them to get home later that evening and think, "Wow... my skin still feels really good." Or maybe catch the scent on their arm and think, "Whatever she used during that massage smells incredible."
To me, that's part of the massage.
That isn't a marketing idea. It's just the experience I want every client to have.

Eventually, clients started asking where they could buy the products I was using. Other massage therapists wanted them for their own practices. Rebel Apothecary wasn't something I planned. It grew naturally because people wanted to take a little piece of that experience home with them.

Today, every Rebel Apothecary formula is still developed the same way it always has been- by a massage therapist, refined through real-world use, and tested where it matters most: on real clients.
Because if I wouldn't trust it in my treatment room, I won't put my name on it.
